Osmeña Peak/Pico Peak is a hill that boasts an outstanding view of the two neighboring islands of Cebu; Negros and Bohol. It also boasts a vast view of the sea and you’ll get to enjoy the remarkable hill structures which are a blend of both stone cliffs and green vegetation.
Osmeña Peak is said to be the highest point of Cebu Province with a height of 1,042 meters above sea level (MASL) and It is one of the most visited sites by tourists in Cebu. The hills look like the Chocolate Hills in Bohol because of the many mountains clustered together, it is also known to be a start point for those who want to hike traversing to Kawasan Falls in Badian.
The short hike going to the Highest Peak
At the foot of the hill, there will be a registration booth where you’ll be required to sign up and pay for an environmental fee of 30php, and if you are bringing tents you will need to pay 50php for each tent. The hiking trail to the peak is rocky and steep, I suggest that you wear a sturdy footwear for the hike.
It’s my second time to trek Osmeña Peak, and on my second visit, I had my first camping in the peak. When we reached our campsite, you’ll instantly see the various 360-degree scenic view. You’ll see the line where the sky and sea meets, the islands of Bohol and Negros, the cluster of hills, the different vegetation, all these and you’ll also enjoy the fresh breeze of air. I suggest that you visit the peak before sundown and experience the breathtaking sight of the sunset from the highest peak in Cebu.
Night at the Camping site
At night when camping in Osmeña Peak, you’ll get the sight of city lights and bright stars, although unluckily for us we were caught by heavy rain at around 9 pm and it was hard for us to sleep because of the strong winds and heavy pour of rain. Some of our colleague’s tents were soaked and trampled, and indeed it was a challenging night but it was an experience to learn from. If you’re planning to camp or enjoy your day hike, check the weather forecast first. It’s better to be overprepared than be unsafe and also bring extra tarps and tent pegs for added support to your overnight home.
Mornings at the Peak
Mornings at the peak are very foggy and cold. The temperature at this time is closely likened to being in Baguio. The sunrise view is plainly majestic with the rays of sun peeking out from the sea of clouds. I suggest you bring thick jackets when you’re planning to camp because the fogs roll in approaching the night and dissipates later in the morning.
