Krispy Kreme Doughnut Recipe (Copycat Version)

I love Krispy Kreme, but due to Enhanced Community Quarantine implemented in Cebu, I have less access to purchasing my favorite Krispy Kreme Doughnut doughnuts.

While scrolling through my social feed, I passed by a post about them making doughnuts and other DIY pastries at home, then I realized, why shouldn’t I try to recreate my favorite Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts?

Here are the steps and ingredients I used to recreate the infamous Krispy Kreme doughnuts!

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Ingredients

Doughnut Batter

  • 2¼ tsp. of yeast
  •  ¾ cup of warm water
  •  ⅓ cup white sugar
  •  ½ tsp. salt
  •  ¼ cup unsalted butter
  •  1egg
  •  1egg yolk
  •  1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 3cups of vegetable oil

Doughnut Glaze

  • ½ cup of butter melted
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 7 tablespoons evaporated milk


Time needed: 30 minutes.

Making DIY Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

  1. Combine Yeast and Water

    Mix 2¼ tsp. of yeast with ¾ cup of warm water and let it sit for at least 10 minutes.

  2. Making the Dough

    In a large bowl, combine Yeast and Water mixture with  ⅓ cup of white sugar, ½ tsp. salt, ¼ cup unsalted butter, 1egg, 1 egg yolk, and  1 tsp. vanilla extract.

    Slowly add 3 cups of all-purpose flour. Knead on a slow speed if you have a kneading machine or with your bare hands until soft dough forms.

  3. Let the dough rise

    On a separate bowl. brush the entire bowl with oil, transfer the dough and cover it with saran wrap. let it rise for at least 2 hours.

  4. Roll the dough out and Cut the doughnuts

    Deflate the dough and roll the dough out on a floured surface. Leave the dough with 1/4 inch thickness. Cut the dough using the donut cutter.

  5. Prepare donuts for frying

    Place the cut donuts into a flat surface and let it rise for at least 10 – 15 minutes.

  6. Fry donuts

    On a saucepan, pour 3 cups of vegetable oil let it heat for at least 240 degrees, and slowly drop the donuts into hot oil and let it fry until golden brown on both sides.

  7. Making Doughnut Glaze

    On a medium bowl, mix ½ cup of butter melted,2 cups powdered sugar,2 teaspoon vanilla and 7 tablespoons evaporated milk and whisk it until glaze looks smooth.

  8. Finishing the Donuts

    Dip donuts in glaze and let it drip on the rack for about 10 minutes.
